“I believe we can reach this goal through education and by creating activities to keep our youth off the streets. As a basketball player, I want to build basketball courts in as many schools as I possibly can.

After knowing ups and downs in my life, I consider myself very fortunate and I want to give back. I want to use my celebrity to help in any way I can the children of Congo, and hope others will join me in my efforts.”

So are the words of Didier Mbenga, the NBA player who decided 3 years ago to create THE MBENGA FOUNDATION. This realization occurred after a trip to The Democratic Republic of Congo, which allowed him to witness first hand the needs of students in his native country. It was obvious to him that it should start with education. Didier firmly believes that education is the cornerstone of human progress.  The Mbenga Foundation was created with this purpose in mind — to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path.
